FIRE AT WAIMATE.

CHILD UPSETS LAMP. Waimatc, August 1. Caused by a child overturning a kerosene lamp, a fire gutted a fourroomed cottage. Mrs Waslev, the occupant, endeavoured to extinguish the flames, and was severely burned about the face and hands. Mrs Wasley is suffering from shock. One child was also slightly burnt, but the other two children were unharmed. The brigade turned out promptly but the building was old and the flames had a good hold. The building was owned by R. Swan. Tlie insurances were not available.
