DAWBERS A 3, V. FOXTON 0
The "round at North Street Park, Palmei’ston North, were in a trea - cherous and greasy condition for the match on Saturday, pools of water ruining many passing rushes. Nevertheless, the Foxton-Daw-bers A match was a centre of much interest. The play was hard and fast, with at times, pretty play by both combinations. The Foxton men put up a good fight, but they lacked snap on the whole, and put altogether too little force into their kicking. For the first few minutes Dawbers had the advantage, and McLeod, on the right wing, made a fine dash down the line to make a beautiful shot, which, however, the goalie stopped. A similar attempt from the left wing a little later shot the ball outside the posts. Foxton gave several opportunities during the game, and were saved from a bigger defeat only by their incomparable goalie, Young, who put up a remarkable performance throughout. Early in the game Foxton made a terrible miss at an open goal, and almost paid dearly for it a few moments later, Chapman sending in a hot one that the Foxton goalie just managed to tip over the net. Dawbers, bringing the play back again to Foxton territory, Chapman pushed the ball through from a scramble in front of the goal.—l—o. Then followed a good attempt by Davies (P.N.) and some pretty play by both sides, Davies finally beating the goalie. 2—o. With Dawbers pressing hard, the Foxton custodian made a great succession of saves, playing a game of ping-pong with his opposers. Davies managed to secure again for Dawbers, and with the end of the game were the victors by 3 goals to nil.
