FOXTON RACING CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET.

The following- is the report and balance-sheet to be presented to the members of the Foxton Racing Club at the annual meeting to be held in (lie Town Hall supper-room on Monday, 30th inst., at 8 p.m.-— 1 “Your Committee have pleasure in presenting the report and balance sheet for the period ending 30th June, 1923, and which shows the Club to be in a thoroughly satisfactory position. Owing to adverse weather conditions on. the second day of the meeting receipts show a decrease on the previous year. Stakes to the amount of £2,780 was given for the meeting (a reduction of £220 from last year). The amount paid to the Government in taxation during the year was £1,079 10s lid and the Club has also forwarded to the Stamp Department £1,744 9s, Dividend Tax, and £282 14s 6d for War Tax on stakes. During the year a very necessary improvement at the course has been made in widening the straight. The Bird Cage is also being extended. Satisfactory improvements have also been made to the floors of loose boxes in Whyte Street. Owing to the inadequacy of accommodation since the office was destroyed by fire, the committee have had .plans prepared for the building of a suitable office on- the • Main Street- section. The club have been allotted Tuesday and Wednesday, 22nd and 23rd January, 1924, for the next race meeting. The application for an extra two days’ racing has been recommended by the District Committee provided a permit is available. The Committee wish to express their gratification at the honour conferred on Mr Jewell in being elected as President of the N.Z. Country Racing Clubs’ Association. Mr L. R. Freeman, who has acted as secretary for the club for three years, resigned in March and Mr D. R. Ogilvv was appointed to the position. 'lt is with deep regret that we have to record the deaths of Mr W. Bock and Mr R. Nimmo, members of the club.” BALANCE-SHEET.

Expenditure:—Stakes £2,780, Salaries £330 18s 3d, Wages £l2O, Attendance at meeting £lO3 13s, Maintenance and repairs £145 8s sd, Plant £lO, Advertising and printing £225 7s Id, Government taxes, £1079 10s lid, Rents, rates and Insurances £205 12s, N.Z. Racing conference £4B 10s id, General expenses £4OO 10s 3d, Balance at Bank, 30/0/23 £290 17s 3d, total £5758 19s 3d. The statement of assets and liabilities shows the liabilities as nil and the assets £4,884 5s 3d. ELECTION OF STEWARDS. For the election of three stewards there are eight nominations, including three retiring stewards, who are eligible for re-election, namely Messrs W. T. Jewell, A. E. Green, and J. Purcell. The names of those nominated are: —-Messrs Bryant, V. E., Easton, S. J., Green, A. E., -Jewell, W, T., Purcell, J., Parkin, E., Rangiheuea, R., Smith, A. N.
