ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Wellington, July 17. Charles William Davidson, married, aged 4G, slipped from the Mirama tram and died from laceration of the brain and cerebral haemorrhage. CTRL'S HAIR TORN OFF. Auckland, July 17. Ellen Ferguson, aged 20 years, employed at a bedding and mattress manufactory, in Grey Lynn, while endeavouring to replace a belt on the driving machinery, got her hair caught in the shaft, and it was torn from the scalp, leaving a deep wound. She was removed to hospital. where she is progressing favourably. S\D TREE-FELLING TRAGEDY. i AshtWton, Julv 17. ' Mr Joseph Rountree is the saddest father in New Zealand to-day. After sawing a tall pine, he inserted a wedge and walked towards the hon-'C, intending to return to eomplete the job, when the tree crashed prematurely,- pinning his son. Harry, aged 28 years, under the branches,’ but apparently not fatally. Seizing a sharp axe, the father hacked the branches in desperate haste, and accidentally cut his son's leg. which wac concealed beneath the foliage. The son shouted : “Yon have cut me. ’ It was found necessary to saw the tree across, and the sou in the meantime, bled to death. He was the < nlv boy in a family of seven.
