THE HEMP MARKET.

JUNE GRADING RETURNS The Department of Agriculture has forwarded the following returns of hemp, tow and stripper slips graded during the month of June. — 'I Hemp.—The total number of bales graded was 3,412, as compared with 3,107 for the corresponding month of last year, an increase of 305 bales. For the twelve months ending 30th June, 1923, the number of bales graded was 59,466, as compared with 61,473 for the previous twelve months, a decrease of 2,007 bales. Tow. —During the month 846 bales were graded as compared with 1,037 for the corresponding month of last veaiyffi decrease of 191 bales. For the twelve months ending 30th June, 1923, the number of bales graded was 15,436, as compared with 13,332 for the previous twelve months, an increase of 1618 bales. ■ Stripper Slips.—During the month there were no stripper slips graded as compared with 26 for the same month last year, a decrease of 26 bales.

The following is the detailed particulars of the hemp graded: —

Fifty-three bales at Picton were graded fine, 25 bales at Auckland, four at Foxton, 13 at Wellington and one at Blenheim were rejected and three bales at Auckland and 44’ at Blenheim were condemned. The number'of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: Fine 53 (32), good.fair 220 (1,228). high fair 1,914 (1,340), low fair 987 (457), common 148 (13). rejected 43 (21), condemned 47 (16), a total of 3,412 bales, being an increase of 305 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port were:—Auckland 025, Foxton 484, Wellington 1,455, Blenheim 263, Picton 81, Wairoa 318, Bluff 186. The following is the detailed par-
