LITTLE CHILD MALTREATED.
A PAEKAKARIKI CASE. FIENDISH TREATMENT OF BABY GIRL. Wellington, July 3. Severely bruised about the body, and generally showing signs of having been very roughly handled, a baby girl, two years of age, was brought before Mr Page, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, in regard to a complaint under the Industri; ! Schools Act, 1908, that she was not under proper care and control.
Senior-Sergeant Lander explained that the baby had been brought to the Centfnl Police Station by some people from Paekakanki who alleged that she was being very badly treated. She was taken to Dr Henry, who gave a eertitieate, produced, in regard to the child’s condition. The certificate showed that the baby’s body was a mass of bruises between the shoulders and knees, and that she had evidently been mercilessly beaten.
The police desired the matter to he adjourned until Saturday to enable inquiries to be made in regard to allegations of cruelty.. An adjournment until Saturday was granted, the child in the meantime to remain in the Deceiving Home.
