CAMPAIGN AGAINST TUBERCULOSIS.

Dunedin, June 29. At a meeting of the Hospital Board, the following motion was passed:—“That in view of the proposal to hand over Pukeora and Otaki sanatoria to the North Island hoards, the Director-General be requested to state if it is the intention of the Health Department to abandon the proposal adopted at the conference of the four main hospital hoards in Wellington in .1922 in regard to the amalgamation of hospital boards generally throughout New Zealand for the treatment of consumptives, with a view of pooling the capital cost of maintenance thereof in proportion to the capital value of the districts.” Tlie chairman (Afr Knight) stated that the North Island hoards apparently were reluctant to assume the financial responsibility for the provision of institutions for the treatment of consumption, while the South Island boards lmd done their duty, or more, in this respect. It seemed to him that the proposal for a national campaign against tuberculosis, which met with such approval, especially by the Department itself, had been completely ignox’ed, and the whole matter was being again played with.
