To make mustard more appetising add a little salt when mixing. Brown stockings should never he ironed, as the heat of the iron spoils the colour, causing an ugly yellow tint. Two or three thicknesses of newspaper placed between blankets will give extra warmth. A lump of .sugar kept in any disused tea or coffee pot absorbs moisture and prevents rust or mildew. While a fruit stain is still moist cover it with powdered starch. When dry, rinse in cold water and wash in the ordinary way. There is no better agent for polishing windows and morrors than a pad of newspaper, the printer’s ink possessing special polishing finalities. For a bilious attack, try the juice of half a lemon, half a teaspoonful of carbonate of soda and two tablespoonfulls of warm water. Wrap a piece of ordinary crepe over a velvet shoe pad and use it for brushing velvet gowns or cloaks. It is move effective than the ordinary soft brush. Rusty irons can be made beautifully smooth in rht*~Colowing way: Tie a lump of beeswax in a piece of muslin, heat the iron and rub it alternately with the waxed rag and a cloth sprinkled with salt. Painted lionleum should never be scrubbed, hut wiped over with a. damp cloth. Polishing with a good furniture cream, however, is the better treatment, for it preserves the paint and keeps the surface clean mueli longer. Black kid gloves which have become shabby and rusty-looking may he improved by the application of a little black ink .mixed with a teaspoonful of olive oil. It should be put on with a brush.
