KISSEL MURDER CHARGE.

EVIDENCE OF ACCUSED’S GUILT. Ashburton, Last Night. Albert Kissel was charged this morning before Ah 1 Morsley, S.M., with the murder of -lames Mackenzie, caretaker of the Coldstream Estate, nine days ago. Robert Martin, manager of the estate, gave evidence of Kissel’s ad - mission that he shot Mackenzie, and identified the bullet in an adjoining room. Witness also identified Mackenzie’s hand-writing on a will and h (ter produced. The police stated that the will was uncompleted, and included Kissel as a beneficiary. Allan Robert Gourley, school teacher, described a conversation after Ihe murder, Kissel being bitterly distressed and complaining of a j-'vrib'e nightmare.

Archibald Little, accused’s employer, said Kissel gave notice on the day previous to the murder, being : imitated because witness took a knot out of a rope coupling two hor- rs. He always considered Kissel to he a hit “soft.”

George Henry Burch, gardener, repeated a conversation with Kissel whose memory appeared to he paralysed.

Kissel pleaded not guilty, and reserved his defence, and was committed for trial. At the inquest held concurrently, a verdict was returned that Mackenzie was killed by a rille bullet tired by Kissel.
