THE NEW MINISTER.

iW BOLLARD CHOSEN. The Prime Minister announced yesterday morning that Mr B. F. Bollard had been appointed a Minister of the Crown. The announcement has been expected for some days and it came as no surprise to find that the choice had fallen on Mr Bollard. Mr Bollard occupies his seat in the House as the representative of Baglan, and for some time he has been one of the Government whips. He is one of the silent members of the House, very rarely speaking unless it is formally to ask for leave of’ absence for a member of the party. He is also one of the most popular of all the members. He is a son of the late Mr John Bollard, who represented Eden in Parliament, and was bom in f8(13. He entered the House in 1911. He was brought up at Avondale, and spent the earlier years of his life on his father’s farm. He qualified for public life first as a clerk to the Avondale Hoad Board. In 1909 he went into business on his own account as a savvmiller at Tuupiri, and he later settled down to farming at Tamahere. For a number of years he has been chairman of the Bail ways Committee of the House. Mr Bollard has not yet been allotted a portfolio, and the subject of Cabinet reconstruction is to be considered by the Ministry at an early date.
