Sir, —Could r you inform your readers what earthly reason there is for those chains and posts round that small reserve in Main Street opposite Ihakara Gardens? It not only mars the appearance of the soldiers memorial bul is out of keeping with the neat fence nearby. I should say (he Borough Council could sell the chains and with the proceeds erect a concrete guard a few inches high, as is done in other towns. The thing at present reminds one of some ancient relic of the convict days. Surely, sir, the gentlemen on the Council are not without some sense of the fitness of things. But, sir, of what use is it other than a spectacle of ridicule to visitors? Yours etc.
