A conference of delegatus representing len different local bodies was lield at Hamilton to try and arrive at some uniformity of regulations regarding the weight of traffic to be permitted on the roads and at a uniform scale of fees to be charged such traffic. After some discussion Mi’Walters (Piako) moved that the Government be asked to give local authorities power to prohibit by ordinary resolution. It was decided, however, to call a further conference of local body chairmen to draw up a remit for submission to the Counties’ Conference to be held shortly. Mr Hinton considered that when they charged a man £7O for taking his vehicle over a road, the road should first be fit to go over.
