CARD TOURNAMENT.
The card tournament arranged under the auspices of the newlyformed Card Club, held in Perreau’s rooms on Thursday evening was attended by between thirty and forty persons and was a decided success.
Prior to the commencement of the tournament the meeting dealt with business, including the appointment of secretary (Mr Simpson) and the alloting of the names to the various teams which were as follows: —Bandsmen, and citizens, “Reform;” Druids and Oddfellows, “Liberals;” railway and fire brigade, “Labour.”
A oribhnge tournament was held, the players being divided into “A” mid “B” teams, the former winning by a margin of five points. The scores were: “A” 20 points, “B” 15 points. The two players most successful were Messrs H. McGregor and A. Newsome, who were presented with a small trophy, Mr Dunn making the presentation. The tournament was most enjoyable and the attendance augurs well for the success of the Club, especially in view of the fact that several members were unable on this occassion (o attend on account of other appointments. The Club on the night of the tournament had 44 financial members, and if is anticipated this number will be increased. The final arrangements for the next tournament were left in the bands of the Committee.
