THE Horowhenua County Council, which is the controlling’ authority of the Shannon bridge, did the right tiling in convening a conference of interested governing bodies to discuss what steps should be taken to safeguard this structure and so keep nil important line of communication open. The conference was well advised in referring the question to a body of experts for solution. This will give each engineer an opportunity to discuss’ the bridge in its bearing upon the various schemes for the delinite control of the river and save time, and further argument which would naturally follow were the matter referred to one expert. Wjhen the report and estimates arc brought down the allocation of cost between the bodies interested should not he difficult to arrange.
