OBITUARY.

MRS ft. T. WOODROOFR

The death of another pioneer of New Zealand in the person of Mrs Susan Woodroofe, at the advanced ago of 73 years, occurred at Palmerston North yesterday. Her husband, the late Mr Or. T. Woodroofe, predeceased her last. year. Following 1 hoir marriage, which was solemnised at St. Peter’s Church, Dublin, in 1871, Mr Woodroofe in the succeeding year undertook the then long and dangerous journey to New Zealand in I lie ship Queen Bee. Mrs Woodroofe followed her liusl.and some eighteen months later in the sailing ship Helen Denny, and joined him at Masterton, where Mr Woodroofe was following his trade of a. cabinet-maker and as a cutter of greenstone for the Maoris, an art in which be gained for himself a wide reputation. On June 9, 1879, Mr and Mrs Woodroofe came to Palmerston .North and cm May 2U, 15121, lbey had the plea.-are of celebrating their golden wedding surrounded by their family and grandchildren. Widely known throughout the community, the sympathy of a big circle of friends will go out to the family in their sad bereavement. Six sons, three daughters and 14 grandchildren are left to mourn their loss. The sons are Messrs G. T. Woodroofe (Foxton), S. Woodroofe (Auckland), R. and W. P. Woodroofe (Te A roll a), W. S. Woodroofe (Palmerston North) IT. J. Woodroofe (Foxton), and the daughters Mesdames E. H. Dagg (Masterton), W. Pickering and F. Cushing (Palmerston North). A niece in Miss Ada Seberry, who has resided with the deceased lady for a number of years has also suffered the loss of one who was dear to her.
