CRITERION HOTEL LICENSE ADJOURNED.

The application for renewal of license by Mr J. T. Brady (Mr Maekay), for the Criterion Hotel, Bulls, was considered at length. Mr Bergin appeared for the owners. The police report in connection with the conduct of this hotel was entirely favourable. The Health Department’s report stipulated that certain outhouses' were in a bad state of repair and the borer was present in certain rooms of the hotel, the fences were delapidated and certain other repairs were needed. The licensee said that he had done certain of the work mentioned in the report at a cost of £47 but the owners objected to carry opt work in connection with the building. Mr Bergin said that the borer could not be held to be insanitary. The licensee, continuing said the fencing was a matter for the attention of his neighbour’s. One had been demolished. In answer to Mr Mackay the licensee said the police report as to the conduct of the hotel was entirely satisfactory. The licensee said he was negotiating for a renewal of the premises at an increased rental of from £ll per week to £ls per week. The S.M. said in view of this the owners should effect repairs to the hotel. Inspector McKinnon said he understood that the owners were prepared to effect the repairs. The Health Officer outlined the condition of the hotel and outbuildings. Most of the work mentioned in his report had been carried out. The hotel building was very old and infested with the borer, which was a manace to good furniture, otherwise everything else was quite satisfactory.

The S. M. said two members of the Committee had inspected the premises and endorsed the health officer’s report. The Committee were of the opinion that application for renewal would be adjourned for three months to enable the recommendations to be carried out.
