Mr J. J. Lynch, of Palmerston N., was found dead on his farm at Colyton yesterday. An inquest will be held to-day. Very heavy rain fell throughout this district hist night and the night previous, accompanied by electrical storms.
The second of a series of dances held under the auspices of the local Eire Brigade, will take place in in the Masonic Hull on Tuesday evening next. A most enjoyable social time is promised all who attend. Admission: Gents 2/o', Indies 1/0.
A member of the Council lieserves Committee informed us yesterday that a number of shrubs laid been destroyed in Easton Park, apparently by thoughtless boys. It js regrettable that the work of the Beautifying Society on behalf of this reserve should be destroyed and we would suggest that notice boards be erected warning persons against such acts of vandalism.
Afr I l '. Jiout, of th<.‘ Poxlon-Shau-non mail service, is experiencing a trying time in negotiating the piece of road now in process of formation near the Shannon bridge. He bus lifted chains on the back wheels of his motor to aid in negotiating this part of the road, which is practically closed until the new road is completed. The King’s mails have to be carried, no matter what the risk, and the contractor asks us to urge the County Council to speed up the work.
At Hie Bedding Magistrate's Court on ALomlay a petition was heard for the holding of a new poll on the halfholiday question. Certain irregularities iu the wording of the election papers as issued at the recent poll, which resulted in favour of Saturday, were alleged, the petitioners maintaining that the voting papers were confusing, and diilicult to understand. A magisterial order nullifying the result of the poll was requested, which, after hearing lengthy evidence, the Bench granted on the grounds that no proposal was carried.
