The enthusiasm of a scientist when on the eve of an important discovery was illustrated by Dr. H. (I. Denlmni in a lecture to the Canterbury College Scientific Society. When Sir Humphrey Davy was engaged in his researches, his friends were apt to remark that he appeared to gain flesh and lose it again very suddenly. This belief was due to the fact that the scientist, in liis feverish haste, would wear clean linen on top of old. At one time lie wore no fewer than six shirts and six collars.
