“A morass from fence to fence whore sheep got drowned.” This was the description given of a backcountry road at a meeting of' the Eaten County Council recently. If -minded like the description of a, North Auckland road where a dray sank out of sight, leaving the shafts poinli ng skyward.—Exehange.
“We saw a while thing, and T tired ■'it it and hit it. I thought that if was a rabbit,” said B. E. Carpenter, aged 17, when charged at the Christchurch Magistrate's Court with discharging a firearm (slates an exchange). The bullet said ScniorSorgeant Lewin, had hit a young lady in the wrist. The boy said he had been 200 yards off the road. This the Magistrate disbelieved. He lined him 10s and warned him to get right off the road before shoot - ing.
A Dunedin lady who arrived in Wellington after a motor tour of the North Island states (says the X.Z. Times) that a great deal has boon published from time to time, by northern papers regarding the progress of the Auckland province. There is one thing, however, the Aucklander cannot boast of, and that is the main road in the southern end of the province. It was so rough that the occupants of the car had anything but a pleasant time, and they were all glad when they readied the city. A Wanganui man described the mads ns “vile” and said they were so rough Unit he had to pul the hood'up to prevent the passengers being .jolted out of the ear!
