At noon to-day the Manawatu river at the Gorge Avas 7 feet above normal and still rising. Mr F. Rout of the Foxton-Shannon mail service, Avas able to get through at noon, but reports the river overflowing at the Shannon bridge. Heavy rainfall is reported in the Hawke’s Bay district. A report from Rangiotu states that the Oroua river is rising a foot an hour. dead water Avas at noon to-day, a pereeptable rise could he noticed in the river at the Avharf and debris and logs are iioav coming doAvn.
