SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the local State school Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Rangiheuea (secretary), Jno. Ross, Pearson, Cowley and the headmaster (Mr Banks). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Coley, Perreau, Rimmer, and Stevenson. Miss Strand wrote tendering her resignation from the teaching staff to take effect from -Tune Ist. The secretary was authorised to convey the committee’s appreciation of Miss Strand’s services to the school and to wish her happiness and prosperity in view of her approaching wedding. The Board forwarded the names of four applicants for the position of third assistant at the sehoolf rendered vacant by the retirement of Miss Wood ruffe*, and recommended the appointment of Miss C. W. Beard. After conferring with the bead-master, the committee decided to endorse the Board’s recommendation. The chairman referred to the recent visit to the school by members of the Taranaki Education Board, and conveyed the visitors complimentary remarks to the committee. Mr A. Leigh Hunt thanked the committee for its testimonial re Ardolith roofing slates. The celebration of Arbor Day was left, in the hands of the headmaster. The chairman was authorised to write to the Board architect re water and drainage and lavatory conveniences and endeavour to arrange a conference with the architect, and committee in connection . with these matters. The headmaster reported that the attendance for the past month was 304 out of a roll number of 415. Other minor matters were referred to in connection with repairs. It was decided to have those matters attended to and to complete the fencing hi of the girls’ playground. Accounts were passed for payment and the meeting rose.
