ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
LEVIN V. FOXTON. Tbe above match was played on the local racecourse on Saturday and resulted in a win for Foxton by 7 goals to nil. The game was not of an exciting nature, being spoilt by off-side play as the Levin team bad not tliedr full strength on tbe field and were playing the one back game, giving the Foxton forward line no chances of playing a good combination game. NOTES ON FOXTON TEAM. Nixon (goalie) carried out his duties without fault, having very little to do but take the goal kicks. Wilby (right full hack) played bis usual game, being very safe and bis kicking was pretty to witness. Monnsey (left full back). The first time in that position for the club, be having previously been in the forward line, but the selection committee appear to have found bis proper plaee. Although bis kicking power is not equal to bis next-mate, bis recoveries are very quick and safe.
Morgan (right half hack) played like an old-timer. Likes plenty of work and appears to have the happy knack of being whore bo is wanted.
Hinds (centre half). This not being his true position although being worthy of the plaee, appeared to be out of bis stride. Bvne (left half back), an old veteran, prefers to be a spectator but is always willing to assist (lie club when necessary.
Francis (left outside forward) played bis usual game, making several good runs, but did not understand tbe “one back” game properly. He also was accountable for owe of tbe goals. Phillips (left inside forward), tbe first time ont Ibis season, aqnitted himself very fairly but was rather weak on shooting, although be was responsible for one goal. Jenvev (centre forward), tbe skipper of tbe team, plenty of dash when on form, also a trier to tbe last. Was responsible for several goals, but should have bad more. Perhaps the Levin grease on tbe ball was responsible. S. O. Else (right inside forward), a very tricky player and is a good help to the team but lie is apt to forget lie is among new churns. Winstanley (right outside forward). played a fair game, but was handicapped through not understanding the “one back” game and more practise in controlling the ball would be very useful to him.
