TARANAKI BOARD MEMBERS VISIT LOCAL SCHOOL.
Members of the Taranaki Education Board paid a visit to the local State School yesterday, accompanied by Messrs Collins (chairman), Swanger (secretary), Hodge (architect), and L. Banner (agricultural instructor) of the Wanganui Board. The members of the Taranaki Board were as follows: Messrs Lees (chairman). Masters, M.P., Smith, Af.P., Deare, Dempsey, Insull (secretary). The party commenced the tour at Paten, on Tuesday and visited the northern schools in the Board district. Yesterday most of the schools in the southern end were inspected and to-day they will inspect the eastern schools. To-morrow the visitors will look over the Wanganui Suburban schools and will be entertained at a fareweli dinner at Wanganui at (5.15 p.m. The parly was met at the local school yesterday and welcomed by the chairman of Committee, who explained that through a. misunderstanding as to the time of arrival, had precluded other local members from attending. An inspection of the building and class-room was made and complimentary remarks paid by the visitors on the well-appointed and modern building. A number of questions were asked and answered. Regret was expressed that the visitors had not had an opportunity of seeing the school at work. In honour of the visit the Board chairman asked that the children be given a half-holiday on Friday. After partaking of lunch the party motored to Palmerston North.
