FOXTON SILVER BAND.

Tt was generally admitted by the public on Anzac Day that Mr J. Colder “delivered the goods,” in connection with the recently formed Fox ton Silver Band (Incorporated). To have trained those who took part in so short a time, besides writing out parts for the instrumentalists, entailed a great deal of work upon the enthusiastic conductor and he justly deserved the praise bestowed upon him. In recognition of the Band’s services on Anzac Day, Mr Holder received the following letter from Sergt.-Major Penre, of the Defence Department:— “Dear Sir, —I feel it my duty as one very interested in your hand, to I hank you for your excellent effort on Anzac Day, “Your playing and marching, though not perfect, was better than (hat of other hands in my sub-area. Taking into consideration the short time you have been together and reailising how difficult it is to play whilst marching at this early stage of your existence, I can only say that your performance was a very creditable one. “The good fellowship and enthusiasm of your bandsmen in my opinion was very good indeed, and I would entreat them not to allow these two most necessary qualities to lax on any account. Also that they treat any mistakes which oocured as a means of instruction, and not become disheartened by them. “Please convey my sincere thanks and appreciation to your band, and remember that should I ever be able to assist you, I will find great pleasure in doing so. “Wishing you and your band the success you deserve in return for your hard work.” The Band proposes to call a meeting to discuss the raising of funds to pay for the instruments and provide uniforms. It is anticipated that Ihe public will make a generous response to the appeal when made.
