Professor liepinan, of London University, addressing the English Association, said that many contractions were better than the originals. “Hanky” was better than handkerchief, “pram” more sensible than prambulator, and “movies” preferable to cinematograph. He advocated an Imperial-American conference to establish the best form of English speech.
