ARRIVAL OF IMMIGRANTS.
BY DORSET AND TAINUI.
Wellington, April 16. The Dorset and Tainui arrived to-day with 205 and 196 immigrants respectively from Southampton. After leaving the English Channel the Dorset experienced heavy weather for ten days. On the night of February 23, a violent cyclonic hurricane was encountered, which at times attained a velocity of over 100 miles per hour. The seas swept clean over the deck and boat deck, carrying away screens and 50ft. of the rails. The vessel was practically hove-to for three days. On February 2! -he logged only -14 miles. After passing the Azores favourable weather was experienced for the remainder of the voyage.
The Tainui, which left Southampton a fortnight later, when three days out from Balboa, sighted the schooner Napo Hying distress signals. She reported that her provisions had gone bad. She had on board 36 souls, including tile passengers and crew of another small sailing vessel, which was wrecked on the Galapagos Islands. The Tainui gave them ample provisions to carry the Napo to her destination.
