The mammoth trees of California are the largest in the world. Some of them are nearly 400 ft. in height, and 34ft. in width. Kissing in public places is going to be banned by the authorities of Rome, on the grounds of public hygiene and good conduct. No horse has ever succeeded in winning the five classic races —the Derby, Oaks, St. Ledger, One Thousand and Two Thousand Guineas. Under the Safeguarding of Industries Act, passed in 1921, duty is payable upon fi,ooo different articles‘if imported into Great Britain. An air stowaway arrived in Cleveland from Detroit on one of the United States mail planes. He was hidden among some empty mail bags.
