OAMARU ELECTION.
DECLARED VOID. The Oarnaru election was on Thursday declared void by the judgment of the Election Court upon the petitiun of the Hon. E. P. Lee. The Court found that the returning officer hud brought about •*!he unfortunate result of the case” by not putting the surnames only on liie ballot-paper. It would be wrong i lie Court stated, to decl'are the petitioner elected, when it was not clear that a majority of the electors desired his return. On the other hand the Court was unable to, say, without doubt that a majority desired the respondent to be elected. ; THE NEW CONTEST.
ISSUE OF WRIT WITHIN A FEW DAYS.
Auckland, March 30.
Referring to the Oarnaru petition decision, the Prime Minister said that the Speaker would be issuing the writ for a new election within a day or two. Mr Lee would be again nominated.
