THE TAURANGA BY-ELECTION.
ON THE EVE OF BATTLE. The Taurnnga by-election takes place to-morrow and both sides are working desparately. The Liberals expect a win for their candidate by a small majority, while the Reformers are equally sanguine. It is evident from the amount of energy the Prime Arinister is putting into the fight that he does not take the same sanguine view of the improbability of a dissolution, no matter what the result of the election, as Sir Joseph Ward does. The lutter reiterates from every platform that the cry that his election must mean dissolution is a pure electioneering dodge, and judging by the applause lii.s audiences appartenly accept the same view. The Reform candidate has had the assistance of the Prime Minister and the Hon. C. J. Parr while Alcssrs Wilford, Veiteh and Atmore, Al.’sP., are assisting Sir Joseph’s candidature. There have been record attendances at all meetings throughout the scattered constituency.
