Sir, —T notice by your report of (ho Borough Council meeting that it is proposed to erect a Council Chamber with the insurance money left from the building which included a public rtading room and library. First, Sir, I think the Mayor has been in a hurry for once in his life, but does he and those who supported him think that they are acting in the best interests of the town and fairly to the townspeople in the matter? A sop is thrown out to lix up a room at the Town Hall as a reading room. What sort of a place is that for such purposes with all the noise going on in the building occasioned by entertainments, etc.? Why does the Council not give the ratepayers a say in the matter to make a decent job of the whole thing, instead of a halfpie job. T am, etc., RATEPAYER.
