The deepest mine in the world is at Morro Velho, Brazil. It has reached a vertical depth of G,42Gft. below the surface of the earth. This great depth is attained not by one shaft but by a series of five, staggered to follow the 45 degree pitch of the lode with which it is connected by crosscuts.
