Mr S. R. Lancaster lias announced his intention of contesting the Palmerston North Mayoralty. Yesterday Messrs H. Frankland and Fergusson left for Trentham to compete in the New Zealand Rifle Association Meeting there to-day. ' We are pleased to report that Master Gilbert Tver, who recently underwent a critical operation in the Palmerston Hospital, is progressing sat islactorily.
Mr \V. C. Jago, Foxton, won the yachting race at the Horowlienua Regatta yesterday, with liis yacht “Moana,” winning the race by 55 minutes, from a six minutes handicap.
Miss Kathleen Hornblow, a local pupil at the Wanganui College succeeded in obtaining - the mile swimming certificate this week. Another Foxton pupil, Miss Bertha Gower, has developed into one of the college’s aquatic champions. Mr and Mrs Alsop have returned to Foxton after a four-months’ trip through Australia. Mr and Mrs Alsop visited all the principal cities in the several states and many out-of-the-way places. They travelled the trans-continental railway from end to end. Air Alsop intends to take up his residence at the local seaside.
