OBITUARY.
MRS ELLEN BAUCKHAM, AGED 75 YEARS. The death took place this morning, at her son’s residence, Park St., r,f Mrs Ellen Bauckham, relict of the late Mr Charles Bauckham, ag£d 75 years. The late Mrs Bauckham arrived in New Zealand together with her husband in the year 1870 per sailing ship Rakaia and did not touch land after leaving Plymouth until her arrival at Foxton, slu) having transhipped direct from the sailing vessel at Wellington on to the old “Stormbird.” Upon making Foxton the little? vessel got stranded at the Heads and Airs Bauckham and family completed the journey to the old landing place in a rowing boat. Together with her husband and. family she proceeded to Ashhurst, then in its infancy, and went through all the trials of the pioneering stage. Upon the death of her husband, about seven years ago, deceased took up her residence in Foxton with her son, -Mr W. D. Bauckham with whom she resided until her death. She leaves three sons (Alessrs W. D. Bauckham, Foxton, A. D. Bauckham, Ashhurst, C. D. Bauckham, Wellngton) and six daughters (Mesdames G. Hart and AY. Whitten, Palmerston N., Mrs Rose, Mangatainoko, Airs Hayward, Ashhurst, Airs Overden, Alelbourne, and Alss Bauckham Wellington) and a number of grand-children to mourn their loss.
The funeral ‘ will take place at Ashhurst on Saturday next.
