the whirokino road
AND MOUTOA STOP-BANK. At this week’s County Council meeting the engineer reported as, follows on the Awahou Riding:— < I recently made an inspection of the Whirokino road. At the time of my visit the water was backed up by the tide and in several places was running over the road. Mr A.' Ross had his lorries carting sand filling up the worst of the holes for the time being, but this work is only very temporary and it is absolutely essential that work of a more permanent nature should be done on a road like the Wihirokino road. At the present time the road is almost impassable and a good deal of the heavy traffic is,diverted to the Fox-ton-Shannon road. My estimate for repairing the Whirokino road is about £350 provided the quantity of metal required can lie obtained adjacent.to the road. RIVER EROSION. The recent floods in the Manawaiu river have caused an erosion to lake place near the Shannon bridge •it, a spot approaching the south end of the stop bank that was constructed last year. The position is again serious and it will he necessary to extend the stop bank from Mr Upton’s gate, through Mr Pigot’s property and tie the bank on the bridge approach. I would recommend that the above work be proceeded with before the winter sets in.
