AMERICAN ATHLETIC TEAM.

The team of American athletes, which is at present touring the Dominion has created a very favourable impression not only in athletic circles but with the public generally. After a great deal of trouble and expense, arrangements for the appearance of the team iu Palmerston North have at last been made and on Saturday next, February 10th, they will compete on the Sportsground at 2 p.m. The visitors are M. Kirksey, next to Paddock, the world’s - champion sprinter, J. W. Merchant, the world s champion hammer thrower, and G. Krognes, an American hurdling and jumping champion. Kirksey has been credited with 9 4-ssee. for the 100 yards and 21 4-ssec. for the 220 yards so there is no doubt as to his capabilities. Three of New Zealand’s best athletes will appear in competition against the Americans, viz. H. E. Wilson, the Australasian champion hurdler, L. A. Tracy, the New Zealand University champion and Peter Munro, the Australasian champion hammei’ thrower, This group of athletes is undoubtedly the finest which has ever competed in this district and patrons are promised an afternoon’s sport worth travelling miles to enjoy.
