TWO FIREMEN FINED,

Christchurch, Last Night.

Richard Williams and Patrick Byrne, two firemen, appeared today in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court, charged with assaulting Leonard Cullimore, a greaser, on the Wjingatui. Byrne was also charged with the theft of several articles, the property of Cullimore who is a free labourer. The evidence showed that the accused, with others, went on-board the vessel and assaulted Cullimore, and that Byrne ransacked his locker. Williams .was fined £5 in default two months’ imprisonment. Byriie was fined £2O for assault, in default two months, and £lO in default three months’ imprisonment, on the charge of theft.'
