Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1923. A THANK OFFERING FOR THE BLIND.
THE Mayor (Mr .John Chrystall) struck the right note when speaking at the conclusion ol: Mr Clutha McKenzie’s meeting on Thursday night on the subject of raising Foxton’s quota towards the Sir Arthur Pearson Memorial Fund to aid blind people of New Zealand. The Mayor said donations should be given voluntarily as a “thank offering’’ from all in possession of sight. This suggestion was strongly supported by otliess as against Foxton’s quota being raised by special quid pro quo methods. On a shilling per capita basis Foxton’s quota would amount to about £BO and we have no doubt that this amount will be quickly forthcoming.
POWER BOARD VACANCY.
WHEN Cr. Whibley resigned from the Borough Council at last ordinary meeting, he referred to his pendiug resignation as the Foxton borough representative on the Horo-
j wlienua Hydro-Electric Board and ' suggested that when his resignation took effect that the Mayor, whom he defeated for the position at the election, be appointed by the Council in his stead. So far nothing further has been heard on the subject and as Mr Whi.blev has left/ Fox ton, it is essential that the borough be kept in touch with mu t iers, particularly at this juncture -when reticulation of the district is under ( onsderation. We hope the Borough Council will look into this matter without delay.
