BAND MATTERS.
A meeting of those interested in the proposed Citizens’ Band supplemented by several who favour throwing in their lot with the registered Silver Band, numbering about ten persons, was held in the Town Itall supper-room on Thursday evening. Mr Newth occupied the chair. A general discussion took place and a resolution was passed authorising the Council to hand over the instruments of the defunct band to the Silver Band for a period of three months but not the fund of abount £lO. It’s about, time this foolishness and opposition to the Silver Band was knocked on the head. As we have previously pointed out the Silver Band has been duly formed and registered and incurred liabilities in respect to instruments. The op-, positionists have failed to form a band and adopt “a dog in the manger” attitude against those enthusiasts who are endeavouring to provide the town with a pleasm’able asset. The resolution of such meeting is not worth a moment’s consideration by the Council who should without delay settle any childish opposition by handing over the instrnments and assets to the registered society under certain conditions, which will safeguard the public interest. With the co-operation of the Council and public a representative and capable executive, the Silver Band should develop into a live institution and a valuable asset to the town.
