AN ANCIENT RACING PROTEST.
AYe reproduce the following letter which appeared in the Herald of January 21st 1881:— ‘“The Palmerston Race Meeting. Sir I see that the Hack Selling Race at Palmerston on Saturday, hacks valued at £o are to carry 9st. and half a stone for every additional £2 10s m value. I value my horse-'at £75 but it would not be good enough to have him weighted with 23 stoue, which would be his weight. ' A good horse would have to borrow a railway tram to put on hi s back to run under such a regulation. H. Davidson, Foxton, January 19, 1881.”
