Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 1923. LET THERE BE HARMONY.

IT is sincerely to lie hoped that Foxton is not again to be brought into ridicule and notoriety in connection with band matters as was the case with school piano farce. The exercise of a little common sense and diplomacy should bring the contending parties to a proper understanding and with the backing of a generous public, Foxton should possess a band worthy of the town and a pleasurable asset to the community. The defunct'band eollaped some time ago over a conditional grant from the Council. The Council were to take possession and hold in trust the instruments such as they were, until a new band was formed.

An endeavour was made by two parties to form separate bands of which one became a registered society and for which new instruments were ordered and a liability incurred. The other party has apparently failed in its attempt to form a band yet objects to the Council handing over the-instruments in trust to complete (lie equipment for the registered band. In our opinion the registered band, since it has shown its bona lides, should be encouraged and placed on a workable basis. In this

connection a representative committee should be formed to safeguard the interests of the society, 'file public is willing to assist such a worthy intitution but until the initial differences are straightened out,

support will be lacking. \Yc would suggesf that the promoters of the registered band convene a public meeting with the object of settling iho differences and merging all parties into one harmonious whole.
