Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, JANUARY 11, 1923. POSTAL ARRANGEMENTS.

I.Y connection with the* suggested postal arrangements which appearcd in our lust issue, it was made to appear that the mails to eatch the morning trains closed at 8 pan. daily. This only applies to the Wellington or south mails. The mails for the north (via Palmerston morning train) close at 7.30 n.m. daily. In reference to sorting the Welliugt:o mail upon arrival each evening instead of the following morning and extending the closing of south mail from 8 p.m. till say 0.30 a.m. daily, we are informed that this alteration if sanctioned would probably mean the closing of the counter delivery between the hours of 7" and 8 p.m. In this latter connection it was the intention of the Department to close the olliee between these hours some time ago, as was done in a number of offices of similar grade, hut owing tb tile representations made by mir postmaster, Paxton was exempted. We would suggest that tlie Chamber of Commerce discuss the points raised and confer with the local postmaster and then forward its recommendations to the Department.
