Manawatu Herald TUESDAY, JUNUARY 9, 1923. THE CLOSING MAILS.
OCR attention has been directed to the very unsatisfactory-arrange-ments connected, with the closing of mails at the local post office, whcli imposes loss of time and inconvenience to local business people. Except on Sundays, the mails north and south close at S p.m. which leaves no time for answering urgent correspondence arriving by the evening mail. The lime of closing should be extended to i a .in. This might cause a little re-arrang-ing in staff hours hut the public convenience warrants -the change. Another matter wliieh requires attention is the sorting of Hie Wellington evening mail upon arrival instead of the following morning. The only night on which this is done at present is Saturday. \Ye feel sure the local postmaster will endorse these recommendations and we hope the Department will sanction the change at the earliest possible moment.
