SACRED CONCERT.

The secretary of the local Racing Club on behalf of the Palmerston Municipal Band, made application at last night’s Council meeting tor the hire of the 1 own Hall on the evening of Sunday, 21t January, for the purpo-e of giving a sacred concert. the programme to be arranged bv Mrs Freeman and Conductor pyke and to contain appropriate items.

The Mayor .-aid if permission were granted the concert should consist of instrumental and sacred items. lie objected to vaudeville items being included and this had occurred at a previous concert. Cr. Bryant «aid it would be absurd to restrict the concert to instrumental items as the opportunity was afforded to hear good vocalists. The Mayor said he objected to comic items at a sacred concert. The application was granted provided the programme ivas of a sacred nature.
