CORRESPONDENCE.

Sir, —As the outcome of an argument will you be good enough to answer this question: Would the taking up of Borough Council debentures by Councillors be illegal? Yours, etc., - -

interested.

[The taking up of debentures by Councillors does not, in our opinion, constitute an “ouster ’ from office. An exception and distinction is made in the Act as between loans and contracts. Ed. H.]

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Whilst appreciating the cleverness of the very youthful motor driver, will you allow me space to call the attention of the parents or the police to the tremendous risk the public is taking when such foolhardy, reckless driving is allowed. The stunt put up by tliis youthful driver in the Main Street at about 2.30 on Wednesday would never be attempted by any experienced or level-headed driver; I fefer to dashing out of a side street into the Main Street at a speed of approximafelv 25 miles an hour requiring - the whole width of Main St. in which to turn the ear and without any possibe chance of seeing an approaching person or vehicle. The car is then stopped by drastic appliention of brakes and without any warning is backed across road, narrowly missing a cyclist. The driver, who can only just see over the bonnet, could not have seen the cyclist if be had turned to look before backing (which he did not do) so he takes the chance that he is the only person using the road and the public take the risk. If the presence of his lady passenger prompted this method of showing off, he should remember that when his accident comes, as inevitably it must, if he continues these stunts and be appears before the Court, being known as a road-hog may not then help his chances, of escape. However, a word to the wise is sometimes heeded. Thanking you, 1 am, etc.,

15 YEARS A DRIVER
