Mr F. R. Feild, in a letter to the Manilla Witness says:—“ln the course of the next twelve months or rather more there is a likelihood of earthquakes and volcanic action in this island —the former near Cook Strait, the latter in the White Is-land-Ruapehu zone. The earth’s interior in this part is now favourable to these things. I am not certain whether the earth’s crust is also so.”
