BIG FIRE IN WELLINGTON.
DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £35,000.

One of the most disastrous fires that have occurred in Wellington for some years past broke out shortly before 11 o’clock last night. The outbreak originated in the bond store at the rear of the premises of Messrs R. Martin Ltd., oil, colour, glass, and wall-paper merchants, 34-36 Manners Street. The (lames quickly sAvept the building, and despite the efforts of forty firemen, burnt fiercely for an hour and a-half. By one o’clock this morning the flames were practically quenched. ’ F - It is estimated that the total damage to all buildings and stock is in the vicinity of £35,000.
