ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Christchurch, Yesterday. George Ludwig, aged 60 years, dropped dead on the Addington trotting course this afternoon during the progress of the last race. He leaves a widow and two daughters.' Wellington Yesterday. While bathing in the Hutt River, Edna Whittington, aged 20 years, residing at Lower Hutt, got into difficulties and was drowned. A boy dived aud brought the body ashore, but life was extinct. Tirnaru, Yesterday. James MaeCorma.ck," a blacksmith, aged forty-five, committed suicide to-day by cutting his throat at Otaio. Deceased leaves a widow and seven young children. Nelson, January 2. I rofessor Easterfield, director of the Cawthoru Institute, met with a painful accident, being thrown from a horse while holiday making at Whangamoa. His injuries are not serious but they will necessitate him spending several days in bed.
Maketu, December 30. While several children were picnicking with their parents at Maketu Beach, two of them fell over the cliff overlooking the beach. Ngawini Singleton sustained a broken leg and Lilac Preutis received serious injuries to her head. Several other children had narrow escapes.
