A. N. SMITH’S. A visit of inspection to A. N. Smith’s drapery and clothing establishment is worth while. The special ’Xmas display is a remarkably varied one and- this progressive firm is to be the forward move made in catering for the re.quireinents of the people of Foxton and surrounding districts. No need to-shop out of town for this firm believes in the motto “small profits, quick returns.” For the children there are toys galore—whistles and blowers at 3d each to rocking horses and sleeping dolls at 8/6 to 15/6 each. Special attention lias been devoted to Christmas requirements by the management. A visit of inspection will indicate the standard and qualityof goods that a Co.-Op Store demands. For the festive season’s trade the Co.-Op. is specialising in biscuits, fruit, nuts, dates, and many other lines too numerous to mention, including their high grade special “Rochdale.” * W. D. BAUCKHAM. W. D. Bauekham is showing a. very dainty line in salmon and pilchards, put up in tins suitable for picnic parties at sixpence per tin. He also has quite a variety of tinned fruit- and cordials'." All leading lines of groceries and hardware at specially attractive prices.
C. M. ROSS CO. LTD. Christmas time at the C. M. Boss Co.’s Store is always a busy time arid this year promises to be no exception to the rule. A walk through the firm’s fine establishment discloses every department full to overflowing with useful goods artistically displayed. In the showroom will be found ready-to-wear dresses and costumes in great variety and at prices to suit all. Lovely Crepe de Cliene and silk jumpers in all the leading shades, millinery suitable for young and old, bathing costumes and caps, and race frocks. Passing on to the main shop fancy section lovely handkerchiefs for young .and old, gloves, laces, ribbons, fancy trinket boxes, soaps, perfumes and heaps of other goods suitable for useful gifts are displayed. The dress department is full of servicable; goods, zephyrs from 1/0, fullards, ratines, sponge cloths, and crepe de chene from 6/6 yard. The Manchester'(department is overflowing with goods such as towels, sheetings, quilts, tray cloths, dutchess sets, d’oyles and runners. The furnishing department contains large stocks of linoleums, -bedding, curtains, cretonnes, rugs, mats, and down quilts. Never in the history of Foxton-have the men and boys been better catered for than they are to-dav. The magnificent showing in tigs, shirts, socks, handkerchiefs would be hard to beat in any city house. -R-osco suits for men and boys, golf hose, boys’ and men’s shirts and jerseys are all lines well worth your attention. Holiday makers should consult this firm about travelling rugs and bags. Inspection cordially invited and no one is asked to buy.
ROBERTSON’S UNIVERSAL STORE. This firm is well styled “Universal Providers” and on entering their premises one is struck by the large and varied stocks which are carried. Foxton is indeed very fortunate hi having such an enterprising .firm who caters for their wants in such an extensive scale. On looking round the various departments one finds displays of aluminium ware, hardware crockery, fancy goods, etc., all artistically laid out at such prices that compare favourably with the larger centres. We next turn to the grocery and provision counters'-'and' lin'd here a really beautiful display of fresh and clean goods, particularly the bacon counter- where - the bacon, ham, sausage, cheese, etc. are kept under cover in a well ventilated glass case from all dust, etc. There the firm’s representative -pointed .out the latest in cheese, the small round Weraroa Cream Cheeses which arc a real delicacy. ' We find the grocery assistant very busy with orders held over for ’Xmas. week. ’Xmas hams are-a great display also ox tongues, sheep tongues, .strawberry conserves, nuts, etc., everything we can think of for the festive season. BARR. AND TYER. At this time of the year when the whole world is agog with the spirit of the season and 1 desre to give takes possession of the hearts of all, it' is natural that the shops form the central attraction and eager faces crowd around the display of suitable wares. Barr and Tyer, the oldest established drapery house of Foxton, prove once more their ability to correctly interpret the tastes and wishes of the public and have put on an irresistible display of useful, novel and attractive gifts at prices specially reduced to allow freedom in purchasing. In every de-
partment large and varied stocks are on view hut special mention may be made of the unusually attractive display of specially imported ladies’ embroidered handkerchiefs, lovely silk scarves of exquisite design, real Teneriffe hand-made d’oyleys, dainty tray covers of pure linen and a host of inexpensive useful articles for the children, while in the men’s mercery and clothing departments, a splendid show of inexpensive and useful articles of wear very suitable for the hoy or hubby are well displayed. To those who must these times be economical, we commend you to the, house of Ban’ and Tyer.
