FOXTON SILVER BAND
INSTRUMENTS TO ARRIVE THIS WEEK.
In conversation with Mr J. Golder we are informed that the registration of the. Foxton Silver Band has been completed and put on a legal footing and the rules governing the society approved. A deposit has been paid, representing one-third of the purchase price, on the new instruments, which will cost approximately £3OO. The new instruments will arrive this week. Mr Golder ‘says that the new instruments, supplemented by those used by tlie old band, will be sufficient to provide a band of full strength and tone. He says that Mr Bryant has offered the use of a practice room gratis and that Mr Coley and other citizens are taking a keen interest iu the society. Mr Clolder says it is hoped by special efforts and the practical sympathy of the public to liquidate the cost of the instruments in three or four years. No interest is to be charged on the repayment of the deposit but seven per cent, will be paid on tlie balance.
Mr Golder says the Band had hoped to he in readiness to play at the local raee-uieeting in January, but as there was a doubt in this connection the club, while sympathetic and offering to avail themselves of the band’s services next year, had to make other arrangements. Those wishing to join the Band will be balloted for and he hopes that in the near future Foxton will not only possess a band, but an orchestra that will be a credit to the town.
