THE RABBIT PEST

BOARD FOR MANAWATU COUNTY. PROVISIONAL COMMITTEE SET . UP. i.A representative and enthusiastic meeting 1 of farmers and others was held at the residence of Mr Geo. Hunt, Rosina tram siding, last week in connection with the formation of a rabbit board for the Manawatu County. There was an ‘attendance of about 30, including Mr Flemming of the Stock Department. Mr J. Gloyn, of Rongotea, was voted to the chair and explained the object of the meeting. Hh stated that a great number of people had rung him up during the morning apologising for non-attendance, but stating ■ were in full accord with the' formation of a rabbit board.

Mr Flemming briefly explained the steps necessary for. the formation of a board and suggested that a 'provisional committee be set up to hold meetings in different centres,define a district and prepare the necessary petition for signatures. Mr A. K. Drew,,Jhe_ county clerk, who was in attendance, submitted a map showing what was roughlyconsidered the “rabbit area ” of the county.

After a general discussion had taken place and one or two alterations had been made to the suggested boundaries, Mr Jus. Boyce moved, and Mr A. E. Pond seconded, the following motion, which was carried: “That a provisional committee be set up to hold meetings at Bainesse, Taikorea, Orou/i Downs, and Foxton to urge upon the ratepayers the necessity of forming a rabbit board in the Manawatu couijty; that a map of'the suggested area be prepared and placed before the meetings and also that a petition be prepared and a canvass made for signatures.”

The provisional committee as follows was set up with power to add if found necessary: Messrs John Gloyn (Rongotea), G. 11. Kingdon (Carnarvon), R. Gates (Oroua Downs), A. Bond (Rangiotu), J. Boyce (Glen Oroua) and W. Burhe ( Rongotea Siding). A vote of thanks to Messrs I lemming, Hunt, and Drew terminated the meeting.
